Dr. Suttiratana is a Sociologist of Health and Illness who studies various sociocultural influences on health. She is Co-Director of the Center for Community Engagement and Health Equity, responsible for community outreach and engagement, at the Yale Cancer Center where she has been a member since 2018. Her current research portfolio includes explorations of contextual factors shaping young adult use of e-cigarettes and other contemporary tobacco products, a peer mentoring randomized control trial to address disparities in technology use among teens who identify as Black and/or Latino with Type 1 diabetes, integrating community/patient perspectives into health system quality metrics, and participation in multiple projects testing community engaged research and clinical trial diversification strategies. Dr. Suttiratana has more than two decades of professional experience in public health practice, leadership development and nonprofit management in the U.S. and the Latin America and Caribbean region including work for the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, World Health Organization and The California Endowment. She also is a core faculty member in the Yale National Clinician Scholars Program where she teaches and advises in the areas of Community Engaged Research and Qualitative Research Methods & Practice. Dr. Suttiratana earned a PhD at University of California, San Francisco, Master’s degrees in Public Health (Emory University) and Business Administration (Yale School of Management) and a BA in Latin American Studies at Yale University.
