Health Equity Week 2023

Health Equity Week 2023 'a quick recap'
Health Equity Week 2023 was overflowing with great events & information! 2023 marked the first year Health Equity Week was recognized by state statute. Advocates across the state created opportunities for conversation, learning, and sharing ideas for advancing health equity throughout Connecticut. HES focused our 2023 Health Equity Week efforts on uplifting the important work of community health workers (CHWs). Missed an event? Check below for details!

Community health workers are effective in addressing inequities and promoting health. We shed light on their important work across Connecticut.

HES and the Community Health Worker Association of CT partnered on a display about CHWs from April 1st – 14th in the concourse between the Legislative Office Building and the State Capitol. Check out quotes from these inspiring CHW leaders and advocates on our social media:

CHWs bridge the gap between community and the care that they need. Thank you to Gamaliel Rivera, Yamira Ramirez, Jose Rodriguez, and Carmen Sarmiento for your efforts to advance health equity in Connecticut.

CHW LOBBY DAY was filled with TONS of excitement & momentum!

CHWs and advocates across the state joined Heath Equity Solutions and the Community Health Workers Association of CT at the Legislative Office Building on Thursday, April 6th for a day of advocacy! Together we urged policymakers to act on Medicaid reimbursement for community health workers.

Racial Justice Advocacy Award to Honor Representative Quentin “Q” Soldier Williams

The loss of Representative Williams was felt deeply across the state. We at HES were grateful for his approach of valuing lived experience and fighting for racial equity with not only persistence but also joy. His time was too short and we want to express our gratitude for the impact and the legacy he left behind.
